Lync 2010 with Linux machines
New Lync 2010 Deployment With OWA 2010 Integration Not Working
I just installed Lync 2010 and it works fine with the Lync 2010 client.
Our Exchange Server is Exchange 2010 SP3 and I can't get the OWA integration to work.
I found various blogs with instructions, but they are all so old that I'm not sure all the prerequisite software hotfixes downloads they are pointing to install are still valid for Exchange 2010 SP3 and the Lync 2010 with all the latest updates.
For a little while I got it partially working in OWA where some of the Lync integration was showing, but it was grayed out and the contacts lists would never load. Now that I have tried several solutions, it no longer even partially works.
I think I need to clear all the integration settings from both Exchange and Lync, so I can start over with valid instructions.
What are the current instructions and current download files needed with the most up to date versions of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010?
I also need to make sure that the syntax of the all the server and certificate names the various commands and wizards ask for are exactly correct. Some of it is confusing on whether it is the actual DNS name, Exchange certificate SAN name or something else.
How do you enable and configure Lync 2010 Online Meeting Capability?
I just set up a new Lync 2010 server and the Lync 2010 client works fine for instant messaging and Outlook 2010 has the link buttons enabled to schedule online meetings.
However, the meeting links in the calendar point to meet.ourdomain gives a "page cannot be displayed error." I didn't know that online meetings are not enabled automatically during the default typical Lync install.
I searched Google, but I'm not finding what I'm looking for. What additional steps are needing to get online meetings working on a new Lync installation?
Lync is only enabled on an internal LAN at this point and that's all I'm trying to get working now. There is no Edge server or external access configured yet.

Lync 2010 Restrict Communications
Is there configuration that needs to be completed on the Lync server to make use of the msRTCSIP-GroupingID for limiting communications between staff. The documenation that I have discovered does not list any server configs neccessary.

Custom based solution for Lync Server 2010
I am working with a customer which is a school and we are implementing Lync Server 2010 as UC solution. There are few considerations for this solution. The requirements are -
1. The girls should always chat to girls not boys and vice-versa
2. The students from same class should chat and not with other classes.
So, wondering if we have any solution for the same. We dont have time and developer to work on Lync Server SDK and give us the solution.
Thanks and Regards/Harpreet S
lync edge server for site with 2500 users
Dear All,
I have a question with regards to the implementation of lync edge server deployment.
One of our client having lync deployment with 4000 users in a central site with 3 FE EE and edge pool with 2 Edge servers, there are planning for a new site with 2500 users.
what will be the best method for the site implementation , shall we deploy a SE Fe server and all the external communication through the Central site Edge server?
or is it required to have a separate pool for site?
please help me
Lync Basic 2013 and Numerous Windows Updates
I have been making progress with automating the Lync Basic 2013 (Office 365) client deployment
process across our domain and have everything in respect to the install
working smoothly but I have hit a post-install snag- Windows Updates.<o:p></o:p>
When I finish installation there are over 40 Windows Updates for each client machine
available for download/installation- everything from Word 2013 to OneNote 2013!
Does anyone know of any creative ways (without WSUS) to get Windows Update to
ignore these programs? We are not installing all of Office 2013, just the
separate Lync BASIC 2013 client that Microsoft has provided.<o:p></o:p>
Call me crazy but I think its nuts that the Lync Basic 2013 installer is about 250MB
(from 75MB in the 2010 version) AND demands that Windows Updates downloads
over 1GB of post-install updates for the entire Office 2013 suite to
bring everything up to date.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Any (creative) help is appreciated!
need to enable sip protocol on lync external public Ip address
Dear ALL,
I have a question with with regards to lync external publishing, is it required to enable sip protocol on lync external publishing Public IP address, if yes , what is the reason?
Lync 2010 Internal Vs External Certificate Requirements?
We plan to install Lync 2010 on our LAN on a single server as the first phase of our roll out and then later add an Edge server so Lync is accessible from the Internet and so we can user Federation to communicate with other companies over Lync. We may eventually also enable Lync for mobile devices so users can use the Lync 2010 app from their iPhones and Android smartphones too.
We can set up the first phase of only internal LAN use with a free SSL certificate provided by our internal Enterprise CA since all our domain-joined PCs are configured to trust the certificates.
When we are ready to add the Edge server and enable external access and Federation, I know we will need to buy a certificate for the edge server, but will we also need to get rid of the internal self-signed certificate and also buy a commercial cert for the internal Front End server or can we keep the same cert for our internal server and purchase a commercial certificate only for the Edge server?

OCS and Lync Coexistance
We have a client that currently has a OCS 2007 R2 pilot deployment with a subset of their users using OCS IM. They want to replace OCS with Lync and roll Lync out to production for the entire company. I understand the migration path as document by Microsoft merging of topologies and moving legacy user to new lync pool. But what I'm uncertain on is merging of the topologies necessary given the following circumstances:
- Only IM and Presence is being used in OCS
- NO web conferencing
- NO telephony
- Edge is deployed but not used or exposed externally.
- They do not require OCS contact list to be migrated
- They do not require coexistence of OCS to Lync IM
The preferred approach for this client:
- Deploy a new lync 2013 FE. and Lync Edge
- Disable user on OCS
- Install Lync 2013 client on user endpoint
- Enable user on Lync
- Uninstall OCS server after all users are enabled on Lync
Are their any foreseen issues in taking this approach? Microsoft documentation does clarify if this is a considerable migration path.
Thanks

How to cleanup failed Lync Server 2010 Install?
There was an attempt to install Lync 2010 that failed part way through when the server crashed during an early stage of installation.
I looked in the domain and see the Lync admin security groups created and I see references to the Lync server in the schema in adsiedit.
Lync cannot be cleanly uninstalled because the original install never finished and the server was replaced.
They want to make a second attempt to install Lync 2010 on a new server and use the same server name. What needs to be done to make sure remnants of the previous installation attempt do not interfere?
With Exchange Server, you are supposed to properly and cleanly uninstall any Exchange Server you plan to stop using (similar to removing a domain controller) so I wonder if references to old Lync server installations in Active Directory are also a problem that needs to be cleaned up before installing another even when using the same server name on the new Lync server?
Navigation to webpage was canceled when opening Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Control Panel
Ok, yes I know there are many threads with similar titles, but my problem is different in that it doesn't happen every time.
The first time I access the Control Panel I get the error:
"Navigation to the webpage was canceled
What you can try:
Refresh the Page"
Clicking Refresh the Page works, kind of. It brings up the admin console, but I get the spinning lights, which eventually resolves to an error at the top of the page that reads: "An operation failed. Network communication failed. Verify your connection and try again."
Then if I click to other parts, things seem to be fine for the most part, I sometimes see the Network error, and often it is slow.
Port 443 is running through an HLB and this is setup exactly like my other Lync cluster, which doesn't have this issue. Internal web services URL is lynccontent and points to HLB VIP. Admin redirect is lyncadmin and points to HLB VIP.
Going to the /cscp page of each FE or of the pool from IE works every time, but lyncadmin seems to have the same issue (at least on FE1).
Any thoughts?

Group Chat feature in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 does not work in Windows Server 2008 R2 domains
Hello to all, there are two confliting articles about this topic:
1- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/upgrade-domain-controllers-to-windows-server-2008-r2(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_Whatsnew : this one says that it does not work "The Group Chat feature in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 does not work in Windows Server 2008 R2 domains". This article was updated in 2013.
2- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692314(office.13).aspx: this other article says that it will function "Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat will function in a Windows Server 2008 R2 forest". This article was updated in 2010 and was refered by the first one.
What is the correct support position for Group Chat feature in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 domains?
