Use SQL alias for Lync Back End SQL

Migrating from Lync server 2010 to 2013 - Connect a Survivable Branch Appliance

Just wanted to be sure about this part of Migration guide :

Every Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) is associated with a Front End pool which serves as a backup registrar for the SBA. When the Front End pool is migrated to Lync Server 2013, the SBA must be disassociated from the Lync Server 2010 Front End pool while the pool is upgraded, Once the pool has been migrated to Lync Server 2013, the SBA can be re-associated with the upgraded Front End pool. This involves deleting the SBA from the legacy Lync Server 2010 topology in Topology Builder and then adding the SBA to the Lync Server 2013 topology. Users homed on the legacy Lync Server 2010 SBA must first be moved to another Front End pool before removing the SBA from the topology. Once the SBA is added to the Lync Server 2013 topology, those users can then be moved back to the SBA. These steps are summarized below:

Does this mean that SBA has to be removed from Topology and re-added again and connect to 2013 pool?

It is not possible to just change it here?

Lync Join as a Guest and then dial the number

Hi,

I just jot an interview request from a company on Lync and skype. They asked me to click the button 'Join skype meeting' in the mail and follow the steps to in stall the lycn plug in. Then I got in the Lycn Web App and joined as a guest. Then when the meeting started, we could chat but I was asked to dial the number. But i somehow could not find any place for me to input the phone number. So finally i had to call through my phone and reschedule it. 

Does anyone know what wrong?

Hosted Lync + On Prem PBX

Hello People,

I am planning on setting up a hosted Lync environment and need some help.

If a client has an on-prem pbx and wants hosted lync . The client will have the following options

1. To dial out using his exisiting Pbx or dialing out through lync.

2. He purchases an SBC and forwards all in bounds calls to the SBC which would be able to fork the calls to both the PBX extensions and Lync extensions.

3. Cancel out his PRI and use his local SBC as an upstream connected to the Hosted-Lync SBC and his existing Pbx.

Would these 3 assessments, scenarios be correct and or am I missing a few other options ?

Lync 2010 or Lync 2013 under Office 2010?

Hello,

we use Windows 7 32-bit with Office Pro 2010 and we would like to use Lync in our company (around 950 users). We also use Office 365 with SharePoint.

My question is, which Lync version should we use? It's possible to install and to care Lync over WSUS? Or it's possible to take "Skype for Business" under Office 2010?

Error in deploy topology

Hi, we have a Active Directory in the company, but we need to install a new one server with lync server 2010 an other building, we have the conecction with the Active Directory server but send me the next error: 

"Topology Builder found a problem and can not publish this topology

The existing topology identifies DLVJOPMI.TSJDF.GOB.MX \ rtc as Central Management store, but try to publish the topology identifies as SLVJOPMI.TSJDF.GOB.MX \ rtc. The stores must match so that you can publish the topology"

How can I change the new central management store and dont damage the other one.

FQDN exclusion entries for Direct Access with Lync

Hi all,

Can you assure me that these FQDN must be included as exclusions in Direct Access NRPT in order to work with Lync? I have split-brain DNS

  •  _sipinternaltls._tcp.<domainname>
  • _sipinternal._tcp. <domainname>
  • _sip._tls. <domainname>
  • _sip._tcp. <domainname>
  • sip. <domainname>
  • sipinternal. <domainname>
  • sipexternal. <domainname>
  • Lync Access Edge FQDN
  • WebConfig Edge FQDN
  • AV Edge FQDN

What about simple URLs (meet and dialin)??

Another FQDN must be included?

Lync Server "branch" site

Hi

We have a single domain infrastructure with two different geographical sites, lets say New York, Washington and Philadelphia. New York is the central site, where Lync is already installed. The two other sites are connected via s2s-vpn. All three sites are using enterprise voice using Lync. At the moment there is a single sip trunk connection to a provider in place in New York.

Now we would like to give the two other sites the possibility to be able to use Lync even if the connection to New York is down. In case of a connection failure to New York all sites still need their own response group functionality. All three sites will have a separate sip trunk connection to a local provider. An Edge server is only installed in New York.

So I am planning to install a Lync Server standard edition in Washington and one in Philadelphia, each with their own front end pools.

Is it possible to just do the installation like that and have all features running (except Edge functionalities) in case of a connection failure with New York?
Do I have to pair the frontend pools in Washington an Philadelphia with the one in New York?
What is are the benefits by pairing the frontend pools?

Lync 2013 deployment for two location

Hi Experts,

we are planing to install lync 2013 at two locations , we already have deployed lync for our site A (reverse proxy,edge server,FE, Backend)  this site is working fine ,now we also need the lync setup for our second location with same domain namespace. so i have few points please suggest-

can i use my site A certificate in site B also ?

in dns zone meet.abc.com,dialin.abc.com is already available present for my site A, so do i need to create these record again with same in same zone with different public ip ? for my site B.

can someone please explain the topology ...please correct me if i am wrong

Hello,

I have a problem with  FQDN, I do not manage to remove them from Active Directory 

and I am stuck with

What happen to the word Business? in Skype for Business

What happen to the word Business?

I have no idea what the developers where thinking when the developed Skype for Business App for the IPhone. Last time I check a Business App shut have additional futures or improved futures from the last version.

Perhaps it’s me, but here is where I really have a problem with the developers of the App.

Call Transfer got lost in translation or …. Something  like that. YOU call this a business application???

The ringtone can’t be changed (In plan simple English we don’t care what you like this is the Microsoft way)!!!!!

I’m extremely sad to see where Microsoft is going with this.

lync 2010 - schema prep error code 5

I am trying to setup Lync and it is failing at the step of shcema prep with the following error (Lync setup is on a VM, my AD is remote on phiscal win 2k8 R2 and I can acces it from VM using AD admin remote tools, remote registry modification is up on the AD server.....) :

Lync Server 2010 Page File Size

Minimum requirement is 16GB RAM for Lync Server 2010.  The OS (Server 2008) is going to create a 16GB page file.  Is this necessary, or can it be reduced?  I've seen other recommendations that servers with large amounts of RAM do not need a large page file, or one at all.  Thanks.

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied

Hi Experts,

I have domain with the 3 subdomains. On the subdomain A is CMS for Lync 2013. On subdomain A Lync 2013 its working for all users. I installed frontends L2013 on subdomain B. The topology has been published. The users from subdomain A can login on frontends on subdomain B. They (users from subdomain A) can open webseite https://fe01.domain-B.com/WebTicket/WebTicketService.svc. All users from subdomain B can not open the webseite and recieved 403 - Access is denied.

I created the user from domain B in Lync 2013 (fe01.domain-B). I checked it by Lync Con Analyzer and i recieve:

[2015-10-20 19:35:50] [ERROR] Couldn't connect to URL https://fe01.domain-B.com/WebTicket/WebTicketService.svc/Auth
[2015-10-20 19:35:50] [ERROR] Reason: Internal server error (HTTP status code 500)

[2015-10-20 19:35:50] [CRITICAL] The credentials were not authorized by the server. Please verify your login credentials and try again.

I know dont where is the problem. Please help me :)

Planning Lync 2013 deployment

Hi all,

Currently our Lync deployment look like this:

3 Frontend

3 Backend SQL servers (mirroring)

2 Mediation

2 Edge

1 Office web app server

1 centralized sip trunk from Interoute.

They are all setup on 3 different hosts as VM which is located in 1 Country.We have Office in 20 countries around the world. We are now expanding and plan to deploy Lync in Asia and USA, since they are the one having delay issue.

What is best practice to do in this case?

If we setup USA and Asia as branch site, then their meeting will still be hosted in main office?

Should we then setup 1 Central Site for USA and 1 for Asia?

What are your recommendations?

How can I replace Lync 2010 with Skype for Business?

I've been try to extrapolate the answer from the deployment and migration guides but I'm not quite getting it

We have Lync Server 2010 deployed on a single server

All the clients are Lync 2010

We have users synchronised to Office 365 and have ADFS in place in order to shortly begin an Exchange migration

We have multiple custom domains in use on Office 365 and our on premise Exchange

Lync doesn''t appear to be accessible from an external network

What would we need to do to simple replace Lync 2010 for Skype for Business?...No migration; just straight swap

We've not used it a great deal but what would we loose by not migrating?

What would the requirements be of:

  • Lync client
  • AD User Account
  • DNS Entries
  • Anything else....

EWS not deployed

Hello

i have read all threads regarding this problem but nothing is helping me.

I need to configure EWS to work for my Internal clients.

EWS internal URL is pointing to https://CASserverArray.mydomain.com/ews/exchange.asmx

DNS has autodiscover.mydomain.com A record that points to my CASserverArray IP.

Lync Configuration shows that MAPI Status is OK, and EWS not deployed.

Can it be the problem UC Digicert certificate that does not have autodiscover.mydomain.com name on it?

If yes how can i check this to be sure that this is the issue?

Hosted Lync + SPLA Licenses

Hello Peeps,

I need some help understanding how SPLA work. I have tried asking my SPLA provider but It seems like pulling teeth.

Any help would be appreciated

<u5:p>I know that Skype for business  deployment would require the following software's</u5:p>

  1. Windows Server Datacenter - From what I understand this cost is per processor/month and so for a dual processor, the cost to me would be X2 per month. I also understand that I can deploy it in as many virtual os as required.

2  Microsoft Sql Server - This is used for persistent chat as well as monitoring server/report , there is no one accessing an instance I need the server software license. What is the SPLA cost to me ?

3. Skype for Business Server 2015/ Exchange Server 2013 - The same applies here, what is the cost of the server software to me ?

4. Skype for Business/Exchange Server SAL’s. - I fully understand these . Similar to CAL's

Internal Use

Section 6B

States that SPLA licenses can be used Internally based on the following

1. That I use a pay for the licenses and report them on a monthly basis

2. That it does not amount to more than 50% on total licenses sold

My question is can I use the SPLA license internally based on product sold or regardless of product. What I mean is if we are currently selling 10 exchange sal's, I can use 5 internally, does it have to be the same product ? or could I use 5 Skype for business instead ?
