Do Lync Online Meetings require all attendees to have a microphone? (I'm sure the answer is no...)

$

I have a standard deployment on 1 FE and 1 edge server.  Nobody is connecting through the edge server - the presenter and all participants are all on the same domain and on the same lan.

The intention is to have one presenter who needs a microphone and a few dozen participants that won't speak and don't have microphones.   I found that when an online meeting is set up, I can invite people with webcams and they join without any problems.  Those without webcams get an error when joining:  Audio device is not configured.

Our OCS 2007r2 didn't have this issue, so I'm pretty sure that I just have something misconfigured.  Any ideas what that could be?

Lync Server Install 'Request-CSCertificate' is not recognized

Hi,

When I get to step 3 of the 'Install or Update Lync Server options', the 'Request, Install or Assign Certificates' I get an error which says 'The term 'Request-CSCertificate' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.'

When I click Ok on this the certificate wizard opens, I click on request and go through the all of the wizard, and I get exactly the same error again. It would seem the CMDlet is no installed correctly.

I am installing the server on a 2008R2 member server. Any ideas of whats wrong?

Thanks

Lync 2010 Deployment Wizard Step 2 error

$

Step 2 of the deployment wizard fails while attempting to "Enable new role s"(first FE in our EE pool). This is getting frustrating as we have very carefully made sure that all pre-reqs have been met, DNS records were created, topology was created and publhised without error, and all other steps within Stpe 2 complete successfully.

We are installing on W2K8 R2 in an ESX backend. Resource forest, not that it matters.

This gives the appearance of a PS error for pipelineprocessor?

Here is the error from the deployment log:

How to convert BTXML to visio 2016

$

Hello

I have found two tools to convert BTXML to visio:

1-     Skype for Business Server 2015 Planning Tool:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg558631.aspx

2-     Making sense of a TBXML(Script)

http://emptymessage.com/?p=49

The first tool is very good for initial planning which works for visio 2016.

But I think the powershell script is really good, because we can use it as a backwards.

Ex: if the customer has already a topology, then we can assume the services or by upgrading the topology we can quickly have an overview oft he situation and use it.

Now my question is: the script is not compatible for visio 2016. Does anyone know how to change the script so that it would be compatible for visio 2016?

Thanks

Moving Lync 2010 databases including Group Chat DBs

We are still running Lync 2010 ( i know.. i know ) and my SQL server is having issues. My DBAs want me to move the Lync databases. I found several articles about moving Lync 2010 DBs, including:
 https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/nexthop/2010/12/20/change-a-pool-database-instance-when-the-pool-hosts-the-central-management-server/

So I have a good idea of what I need to do for Lync 2010 DBs, but we are also running Lync 2010 Group Chat and I cannot find any articles about moving the Group Chat DBs. Can anyone offer suggestions on a process for moving Lync 201 Group Chat DBs?

Not able to transfer calls from Avaya extension to Lync EV users.

When calling to Avaya extension from cell phone and then transferring the call to Lync EV users, calls are getting disconnected right after giving the popup for the incoming calls on Lync.

Below is the message that we see in the UCCAPI logs -

reason="Normal termination response from gateway after the call was established";component="MediationServer";sip-reason="Q.850;cause=16;text="Normal Call Clearing""

ms-diagnostics-public: 10027;reason="Normal termination response from gateway after the call was established";component="MediationServer";sip-reason="Q.850;cause=16;text="Normal Call Clearing""
Reason: Q.850;cause=16;text="Normal Call Clearing"

From gateway side, I could see call getting disconnected with Cause value 47 "Resource unavailable".

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Team,

We are currently having On Premise Exchange 2010 servers in DAG and Standalone Lync 2010 server.

We are planning to upgrade out Exchange 2010 environment to Exchange 2016.

We wanted to know if Exchange 2016 is compatible with Lync 2010 server and client.

We did not find any article stating that its not compatible.

Please help us with any article or link which will list the lync 2010 compatibility with Exchange 2016.

Mitesh Jain

Front End Publishing

Hi!

Is it possible to publish Lync Front End Server so that external clients can connect to it using public IP instead of installing an Edge Server? What is the use of Edge Server? What are the ports and dns records needed to be published for Lync Front End Server on the firewall?

Thanks.

uninstall Lync patch

$

Hello,

I would like to uninstall a Lync patch by using a cmdline with wusa or msiexec.

But none of these works.

I tried wusa /uninstall /kb:2842627 /quiet, then I get a message that the update is not installed on this computer. While it definitely is because it is listed in the installed updates list under the Microsoft Lync section.
By using msiexec.exe /uninstall {5681C3AA-10C8-F834-E92D-E861D3018630} /package {81BE0B17-563B-45D4-B198-5721E6C665CD} I get the message "the patch is not applied to this product". With the same result, the patch isn't uninstalled.

I installed the patch by using the following command: msiexec /p Lync_KB2842627.msp REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus /quiet

So my question is: What am I doing wrong? And what is the correct command to uninstall a Lync patch silently by cmdline?

Thanks,
Jaco

When is the sip.mysipdomain.com A record required?

$

I plan on deploying Lync 2010 Edge services. Our environment does not have split DNS, and the sip.mysipdomain.com A record already points to an internal pool.

I'm having a hard time determining when the sip.mysipdomain.com A record is actually required. From my testing, the Lync client and CX600 phones only ask for the SRV records.

If my user login name is user@foo.mysipdomain.com, is the sip.mysipdomain.com A record required?

Hi all,

I have some question would like to ask. Appreciate your help.

1. Is that okay to install Lync Edge 2013 or Skype for Business 2015 Edge with Lync Front End 2010? And is that require any additional licenses?

2. Is Lync hybrid 2010 without WAP server (for publishing) be able to work well with Office 365. Is any limitation for external access or mobile access from the Internet in that case?

Thanks a lot.

Lync Errors - Schannel 36888 - Front End Service stops randomly

Hi,

I have been running Lync 2010 in a standard setup for a good six months now.

about a month ago, issues started occuring with the front end service.

the service will stop, without any errors in the event log suggesting as to why. the only clues i am getting are a lot of schannel errors in the system log, but after doing some research i cannot find a solution.

I have seen other people fix these issues by changing records in DNS, but i have got this working before, and nothing has been changed.
when the service is running, i have internal and external connectivity, as well as video, desktop sharing etc, so I cannot see anything wrong with the setup.

my gut feeling is that this is ANOTHER bug......

can someone please give me some advice, before i ring msft complaining about their awful UC system.

Skype/Lync Locations not appearing (clients not picking up wiremap)

of course everything *seems* right...

interested in locations by subnet- worked before not sure when it stopped. We were lync 2013 enterprise and are now SFB on prem std. Clients upgraded (say 150 out of 500) from lync to sfb also.

Get-CsLisSubnet shows expected values - a subnet and a location with the appropriate name. Have published also. Problem is location is not automatically setting at the client. Nothing. Values don't appear in location dropdown, but custom values stick. What gives?

client is not picking it up I guess

Move users from Lync 2010 POOL to Lync 2010 POOL different AD site

Hi Team,

We have current Lync 2010 Infra as below:

1 - LYNCFE
1 - LYNCDIR
1 - LYNCARCH
1 - LYNCEDGE

Now we planned to move the users from 1 Datacentre to different Datacentre with the same Lync 2010 Version. We decided not to deploy LYNCDIR and LYNCARCH. We have extended support from MS.

Need below inputs:

1) Can I install Lync 2010 on Windows 2012 R2

2) Can I move Lync 2010 users from one POOL to Different Lync 2010 POOL with base O.S Windows 2012 R2.

3) Can someone shed some light on it, like how to add the Lync servers at Different AD site?

4) Which are the Public records do I need to create for different AD site

Any reply really appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

how do i set up multiple IPs on one standard/mediation lync server?

$

I have a standard Lync server with collocated mediation - currently the machine has one nic with a single ip address.

I need to configure multiple ip addresses which will have a one-to-one NAT through my firewall to the mediation server so the SIP trunk provider can break out to separate IP addresses for billing separation reasons.

What is the best way to set this up on the FE/mediation server?  Multiple NICs?  Multiple ips per nic?
