Hosted Lync + SPLA Licenses

Hello Peeps,

I need some help understanding how SPLA work. I have tried asking my SPLA provider but It seems like pulling teeth.

Any help would be appreciated

<u5:p>I know that Skype for business  deployment would require the following software's</u5:p>

  1. Windows Server Datacenter - From what I understand this cost is per processor/month and so for a dual processor, the cost to me would be X2 per month. I also understand that I can deploy it in as many virtual os as required.

2  Microsoft Sql Server - This is used for persistent chat as well as monitoring server/report , there is no one accessing an instance I need the server software license. What is the SPLA cost to me ?

3. Skype for Business Server 2015/ Exchange Server 2013 - The same applies here, what is the cost of the server software to me ?

4. Skype for Business/Exchange Server SAL’s. - I fully understand these . Similar to CAL's

Internal Use

Section 6B

States that SPLA licenses can be used Internally based on the following

1. That I use a pay for the licenses and report them on a monthly basis

2. That it does not amount to more than 50% on total licenses sold

My question is can I use the SPLA license internally based on product sold or regardless of product. What I mean is if we are currently selling 10 exchange sal's, I can use 5 internally, does it have to be the same product ? or could I use 5 Skype for business instead ?

Warning during publishing Lync topology "Warning: Ace DOMAIN\RTCUniversalGlobalReadOnlyGroup; Allow; ReadProperty; None; None"

I am currently deploying a basic Lync Standard installation to deliver IM and presence. During the topology publishing phase I get the following warning "Warning:Ace DOMAIN\RTCUniversalGlobalReadOnlyGroup; Allow; ReadProperty; None; None".

I have trawlled other forums and seen that others have experienced similar problem, however I am yet to find a solution that works.

  • I have checked the Lync file share and it's permissions.
  • I have checked that AD has replicated succesfully and DCDIAG reports that all is well.
  • I have checked that the security groups all exist and are all configured correctly.

Lync standard has been installed on a fresh ESXi VM. Any thoughts would be greatfully received.

Hi...

We are using Lync2010 - and we would like to automate the process for all domain users.

Example : when any user join the company - the system admin have to enable his account manually where new user can use Lync.

We want to enable automatically when any user domain account is created in AD.

Can I hide RTC Service Application Contacts so that it won't show up in Lync?

$

Hi,

I discovered that I have accounts (that do not have Exchange Mailbox) in Active Directory under SYSTEM\Microsoft\RTC Service\Application Contacts such as Announcement Service, RGS Presence Watcher, Call Park Service, etc. that shows up in users' Lync contacts (see below).  I don't know what are these accounts for but I noticed that all of them are offline except for Announcement Service.  I would like to hide these accounts in Lync.

My questions are:

- Can I safely hide these accounts without affecting anything?  If so, how?

- Or should I not touch them because they are system accounts and leave them as is? I'm concerned that they must be built-in or auto-generated accounts by Lync server that shouldn't be modified but my boss wants to hide them in Lync and understand why Announcement Service is showing online.

Migrating from OCS 2007 RTM to Lync 2013 ??

$

Good day - we were planning an OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2013 (Hybrid server) for the sake of then having an easier/staged migration path to Skype for Business Online (as opposed to the hard cutover method).   However, we just discovered that our old OCS server is actually OCS 2007 RTM, and not even R2!   Note: our OCS setup is very basic - 1 single server and all we use are the IM/presence features.

From what i've quickly read, it looks like our only course to continue with this migration strategy is to upgrade from OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2, and then do a second migration from OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2013 Hybrid - is this correct?  Or is there a more direct path that I missed?

Our main concern up until now relates to user experience (seamless transition) and the ability to migrate over our existing custom Contact groups (again, so there isnt a drastic change for the end users).   Given the outlook of having to do multiple migration steps - would it just be prudent at this point to explore the hard cutover migration method to SfB (resulting in a loss of the custom contact groups)?

Any advice would be extremely helpful and appreciated - thanks!!

Lync server 2010 edge server

Hi

We have a Lync server 2010 environment.  We would like to go to Office 365 Skype using hybrid model.

Can we use Skype for business 2015 as our edge server?  IF SO; Is there a guide out there for that?

Unfortunately I can't find anything out there that says Skype for business server 2015 can be used as a hybrid server for a lync server 2010 environment wanting to go to Office 365 skype.

Thanks

Can anyone clarify this for me: ”Web Conferencing Edge internal ports should not be load-balanced.”

$

Hi everyone!

I’m reading about hardware load balancing, and thought that I finally understood it, but then I was confused by this text: (The part in bold)

I know that I have to HLB the traffic from:

Internet -> Edge External NIC
FrontEnd -> Edge Internal NIC

But I don’t understand what they mean

Redundancy for Edge Servers requires just adding more Edge Servers to a pool. Like a Front End pool, up to ten servers can be defined in an Edge Server pool. Load balancing can either be done with DNS load balancing requests or by using a hardware load balancer.

DNS load balancing is done by entering multiple host records for the Edge Server pool name within DNS. When clients or servers attempt to reach a server that is unavailable, they will attempt to use an alternate server.

A hardware load balancer can still be used for Edge Servers in Lync Server, which adds greater load-balancing capabilities at the price of greater complexity.

As in prior releases, the internal Access Edge and A/V Authentication Edge interfaces should be load-balanced, but the Web Conferencing Edge internal ports should not be load-balanced.

Lync 2010 - Hybrid with O365

$

I have read that Lync 2010 can be configured in a hybrid setup with O365 by standing up a lync 2013 management server. ( or a Skype 4 Business management server )

- To install just the lync 2013 or S4B mgmt tools, will I be required to run any schema updates for that version?

- Currently I cannot run the mobile lync 2013 of Skype client against my Lync 2010 environment. Client not supported. Is the incompatibility in the EDGE or Internal servers?  If I configure hybrid, and move users to O365, will those upgraded users be able to use newer mobile clients?  or will they be limited by the Lync 2010 infrastructure?

Thanks!!

Multiple additional SIP domains - certificate and DNS requirements

$

We've setup Lync 2010 Enterprise in our organisation and have successfully enabled a couple of thousand users.

This is working successfully internally, externally and through Lync Mobile.
However, we've only enabled users who are using the main company domain for SMTP and SIP addresses aaaaa_group.com (so all nice and easy so far!)

In other words, user A has a primary SMTP and SIP address of UserA@aaaaa_group.com

However, due to numerous mergers and acquisitions over the years, we have quite a lot of users who have other primary SMTP addresses e.g. bbbbb_co.uk, ccccc_company.com, ddddd_ltd.co.uk, de.ccccc_company.com etc etc
There must be in excess of 40 to 50 of these other domains in use as primary SMTP addresses.
(Nearly all these users have secondary SMTP addresses of aaaaa_group.com).

I have been told to approach this from a best practices point of view and give all users a SIP address that matches their primary SMTP address and calculate how much it will cost to buy certificates to cover enabling every user for Lync on all these domains.

I know from reading that wilcard certificates are considered to be a bad thing generally with Lync, especially if using Lync Mobility as the phone Lync clients don't accept them.

Wilcard certificates aside, what are the names that will I need to add to my SAN certificates?  Presumably sip.domain.com, access.domain.com, meet.domain.com, dialin.domain.com, edge.domain.com, autodiscover.domain.com, lyncdiscover.domain.com

The potential cost of all these names is frankly getting pretty scary considering we currently use Verisign for all our cert requirements, and they charge like a wounded bull.  However, I still need to report back with a cost of doing this, no matter what it is.

Any thoughts/comments would be very welcome. :-)

Edge server ignored on external connectivity test, tried to go to internal lync server.... how to fix?

$

Not that simple.

I try to configure a test installation of lync for our domain (lets just say test.com).

The internal lync serve is lync.test.local, edge at edge.test.local. Edge is also ion theinternet at edge.test.com

When tying to connect externally all fails. Using https://www.testocsconnectivity.com/ for somename@test.com, with autodiscovery, I get:

Testing the Remote Connectivity of user somename@test.com
Specified Remote Connectivity test(s) failed. Please examine below details of specific reason for failure.
 Test Steps
Attempting to Resolve the host name lync.test.com in DNS.
The Host could not be resolved.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it

 Additional Details
Host lync.test.com could not be resolved in DNS Exception Details: Message: No such host is known Type: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException Stack Trace: at System.Net.Dns.GetAddrInfo(String name) at System.Net.Dns.InternalGetHostByName(String hostName, Boolean includeIPv6) at System.Net.Dns.GetHostAddresses(String hostNameOrAddress) at TestOCSConnectivity.Tests.ResolveHostTest.PerformTestReally()

This leaves me baffling - how would this domain even KNOW how the internal lync server is named? Obviously by checking my srv records (only place), but why is it looking at my srv records, i only see _sipinternaltls._tcp pointing to this name, and this one should not be used by an externl test side, or?

* Whatsrv records are used now?

* How do I get this to work?

It works internally, but I need to demonstrate external connectivity.

IIS won't apply redirect on Lync Server

$

Hi,

I have a problem with the redirect functionnality of IIS in my lync 2010 SE server.

Actually, IIS should redirect https://admin.gaulle.lan to https://lync2010-fe.gaulle.lan/Cscp but it does not.

"https://lync2010-fe.gaulle.lan/Cscp" is perfectly working. No problem with this page.

But, when I try to access "https://admin.gaulle.lan", I've got a blank page. When I try to analyse, I don't receive a 302 from lync server.

I searched in IIS parameters but I'm not a web/iis expert. When I look at the URL rewrite module, everything seems to be ok...

Is there a way to be sure that redirect is working on my iis server ? Do I have to enable someting to make it work ?

FYI, I meet the same problem with Dialin and Meet Simple URLs.

Thanx for your help

Regards,

Bastien.

New 2010 Edge in existing topology connectivity issues

Hello all,

We have been running Lync 2010 on premise for a while. We never had an edge server deployed, and we are needing to federate with O365. I updated Lync Front End to the latest CU available, remade topology and added an edge server. FE is running on 2008 R2

Edge is running on Server 2016. Internal and external NICs as required. Configuration works. Certificates passed for internal and external interface with all servers and external addresses as SANs. The NAT IP configured in topolgy is the VIP of the external interface of our F5, not public IP.

External interface is behind an F5 HLB that also acts as reverse proxy. 2 public IP addresses are used:

Public IP 1 pointing to access to the F5 VIP that passes to Edge:

Sip.

av.

webconf.

Public IP 2 points to VIP that runs reverse proxy and sends to Front End from 443 to 4443:

dialin.

lyncdiscover.

meet.

Dear concern,

The environment has 2008 R2, 2012 R2 and 2016 Domain Controllers & Global Catalog servers, Forest and Domain Functional levels are 2008 R2 also has Lync 2010 server. My concern is that if I demote the 2008 R2 Domain Controller will it makes any impact to run my Lync 2010 server!

Thanks
